RB Leipzig Slip Up In Mainz, Fall Behind Bayern Munich

Spread the love

RB Leipzig surprisingly lost 3-2 away at Mainz on Saturday afternoon, which means that Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich could open up a seven-point advantage over Julian Nagelsmann’s side if they beat Schalke on Sunday.

What will frustrate Nagelsmann is that Leipzig twice took the lead in the match, first through Tyler Adams in the 15th minute and then Marcel Halstenberg in the 30th minute, but Mainz fought back to twice equalise and then grab what proved to be the winner in the 50th minute.

Leipzig had a chance to cut the gap to Bayern to just one point at the beginning of this afternoon, but they could find themselves trailing Hansi Flick’s side by seven points by the end of the weekend.

Next up for Leipzig is a tricky fixture, as they welcome Bayer Leverkusen to the Red Bull Arena next Saturday.
