RB Leipzig have made one of the earliest moves with regards to the summer transfer window, announcing that 19-year-old Dutch forward Brian Brobbey will join the club on a Bosman deal once the transfer window opens.

Brobbey’s contract with Ajax expired in June, and he had refused to sign an extension with the Amsterdam giants, and he has previously been linked with a number of European heavyweights.

Mino Raiola is the player’s agent, and the potential for a future move down the line is very high, and the Dutch agent will be hoping his players’ move to the Bundesliga will be as effective as Erling Haaland’s was a year ago.

With Sebastian Haller mistakenly not registered for the Europa League squad, Ajax have relied on Brobbey to lead the line, and he scored and assisted a goal in the tie against BSC Young Boys.

RB Leipzig have announced that Brobbey has signed a contract with the Bundesliga club until June of 2025, and the club hope he can hit the ground running in 2021/22.

Timo Werner’s goals haven’t been replaced, with Alexander Sorloth and Hwang Hee-Chan scoring just six goals between them this season.

“He’s a young, versatile and assertive player, he fits the profile of RB Leipzig perfectly,” explained the club’s sporting director, Markus Krosche.

“He has recent proven his worth internationally with Ajax and he had offers from other major European clubs.

“We’re delighted that he has chosen us, we will have a lot of fun with him next season.”

The player himself, who was linked with Manchester United as recently as January, has made clear just how delighted he is to be signing for the Leipzig club.

“Leipzig is a great club and Julian Nagelsmann is a very good young coach,” he confirmed.

“I can learn a lot from him.

“I really want to make my debut and do my bit to keep Leipzig growing.”
