Rashford Breaks West Ham Hearts With Late Winner For Manchester United
Manchester United left it late to beat West Ham United in their Premier League meeting at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon, as Marcus Rashford scored a 93rd-minute winner to keep the Red Devils’ Champions League hopes alive.
There had not been a ton of clear-cut chances in the match, with Ralf Rangnick’s side having a lot of the ball and making things difficult for the Hammers without finding a way of truly testing Alphonse Areola, while David Moyes’ charges looked threatening on the break.
Declan Rice put in a particularly impressive performance for West Ham in midfield, while Jarrod Bowen also looked dangerous for the visitors, but it ended up being in vain.
Cristiano Ronaldo had a pretty quiet day up front for Manchester United, as, aside from a chance in which he almost got on the end of a Bruno Fernandes cross in the first half, he looked off the pace. There was an opportunity for Ronaldo to be the hero late on, but his low shot in the 90th minute was comfortably saved by Areola.
Rashford the hero
Rangnick had looked to give United some more attacking impetus in the final half an hour by bringing on Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial, who received a few boos after declaring his wish to leave the club. The changes ended up paying dividends, as Cavani and Rashford combined for United’s winning goal in stoppage time. Bruno Fernandes played a ball into the path of Cavani, who played a ball across goal for Rashford to tap into the back of the net from a couple of yards out.

This result pushes Manchester United above West Ham and into fourth place in the Premier League table, but with 22 games played compared to Tottenham Hotspur’s 19 and Arsenal’s 20, they might soon be looking over their shoulder.
For now, though, Rashford’s second goal in as many games – both coming in victories – should provide a much-needed boost for everyone at the club.
