Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, on Monday charged Nigerians to exercise patience with President Muhammadu Buhari, as his government is concerned with the restoration of the country.
The governor, in his Democracy Day address to the people of the state, said the present administration was determined to pull the country out of the woods.
He said the last two years of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration had witnessed tremendous development in many sectors of the country.
According to him, Buhari had recorded some giant strides in such areas as security, fighting corruption, and economic emancipation, saying that Nigerians would soon begin to feel the impact of the government on their lives.
Bello said, “It is on record that Boko Haram menace is gradually becoming history, the economy is gradually coming out of recession, the president only needs your prayers and cooperation for him to take us to the promised land.”
He heaped praises on Nigerians whom he described as lovers of democracy.
“Nigerians have proved themselves to be true lovers of democracy. This is evident from our unwavering struggle to entrench it over the years.we have been pursuing this ideal since May 29, 1999 when this democratic dispensation called the fourth republic commenced.
“I salute our resilience in the defence of our democracy and our courage on going so despite disappointments and difficulties. Every time we voted,we did so on search of a leader who will lead us to the Nigeria of our dreams. A succession of leaders have come and gone but even though we have been disappointed plenty by some of them, we have never stopped aspiring to the greatness which we believe ourselves and our nation entitled.”
Bello said that the burden of midwifing the hopes and aspirations of Nigerians was divinely placed on the shoulder of President Buhari and so required the prayers of every Nigerian to succeed.
