Following his opening goal in the first-half of Tuesday’s Madrid derby, Cristiano Ronaldo consulted with referee Martin Atkinson at half-time to clear any doubts about the validity of his goal after a suspicion of offside.
There is a suggestion that Ronaldo’s decision to confer with the official may well be to put any doubts the English official may have had to the back of his mind, to ensure he didn’t subconsciously attempt to even things up in the second half.
As the MEGA television images showed, the Portuguese forward made clear to the 46-year-old that he didn’t interfere with play.
“Atkinson, offside? Did you not see it? I didn’t interfere with play,” he explained.
