The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, is billed to meet stakeholders to seek the support and collaboration of relevant partners to achieve sustainable sanitation and end open defecation in the state.

The General Manager, Small Town and Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, Mrs. Mercy O. Omoregie, who spoke to journalists in Benin City, said the event will take place on Friday, July 16, 2021, at the Government House in Benin City.

According to her, “the Governor will on Friday flag-off the ‘Clean Nigeria: Use the Toilet’ campaign. The event is a great opportunity to mobilise the support of relevant stakeholders to end open defecation and achieve sustainable sanitation in Edo State.”

She said at the programme, the governor will seek the buy-in of relevant stakeholders including actors in the private sector to realise his administration’s plans of achieving a safer and cleaner Edo.

Omoregie noted that “with the support of religious leaders, trade union leaders and investors in the private sector, the state government will be able to provide more schools, markets, health centres in rural communities with clean water and toilet facilities designed to end open defecation and make the environment safe for all residents across the state.”

The General Manager added that after the official flag-off of the ‘Clean Nigeria: Use the Toilet’ campaign by the Governor, the agency will also intensify public enlightenment campaigns to sensitize members of the public on their roles to end open defecation and build a sustainable environment.
