The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki on Monday inspected ongoing work on the dualisation of Ekehuan Road, expressing satisfaction with the pace of construction work on the 8.3km road.

Obaseki reassured that his administration remains committed to delivering to Edo people, quality and durable roads that will stand the test of time.

The governor noted: “The contractors were anxious to take advantage of the dry season to make sure that a lot of progress is made on this construction project.

“Now that we have the dry season, we should get the contractors to move much faster on the level of work; they have assured me they will. Fortunately, the funding for the work is already in the bank.

“We are just waiting for them to submit certificates and they will get paid. You can tell that what they are doing now is quite enduring unlike what used to happen in the past.”

He continued: “You see the quality of the drainage that is being constructed; if you don’t drain the land properly, the roads will not last.

“It’s important that we scientifically undertake proper draining of the environment before constructing and covering the surface of the road.

“One of the challenges of the past is doing a whitewash design to make one believe that the road would be of good quality, whereas the road will not last beyond a couple of seasons.”

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Mr. Ferguson Enabulele, commended the ongoing drainage work on Ekehuan Road.

Enabulele assured that the first three kilometres of the road would be asphalted before the end of April.
