Nzongola-Ntalaja, Jega, Agbakoba, Others For Prof. Momoh Commendation Lecture

Friends and colleagues of Professor Abubakar Momoh will on Monday, August 28, 2017, hold a commendation lecture to mark his 53rd post-humous birthday at the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo campus, Lagos.

 

 

The lecture which is titled: “Pan-Africanism Today” will be delivered by the renowned Scholar, Professor Georges Nzongola-Ntalaja of the Centre for African, African-American and Diaspora Studies, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hills, United States of America.

 

 

Prof. Nzongola-Ntalaja is the author of Revolution and Counter-Revolution in Africa; Africa in the New Millennium; From Zaire to the Democratic Republic of the Congo; The Congo from Leopold to Kabila: A People’s History; Patrice Lumumba; Democracy and Development in Africa: A Tribute to Claude Ake .  He is also a co-author with Bereket Habte Selassie, Ernest Harsch and Lindy Wilson of African Leaders of the Twentieth Century: Biko, Selassie, Lumumba, Sankara.

 

 

According to statement signed Associate Professor and Ag. Head, Department of Political Science LASU, Dr. Sylvester Odion-Akhaine, indicated that eminent guests expected to grace the occasion are former Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega; former President, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Dr. Olisa Agbakoba; a former Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences, Lagos State University, Prof. Adele Jinadu; former Director–General Centre for Black African Arts and Civilisation (CBAAC), Prof. Tunde Babawale; and Vice Chancellor, Federal University Oye, Ekiti, Prof. Kayode Soremekun.

 

 

Professor Abubakar Momoh passed on last May after a brief illness. Until his mortal passage, he was the pioneer Director-General of the Electoral Institute (TEI), the intellectual arm of INEC.

 

 

He was a pan-Africanist and radical scholar who shot up the profile of the Department of Political Science, Lagos State University into prominence.

 

 

Professors Lanre Fagbohun and Elias Wahab, Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences respectively will play host to the lecture expected to attract a large pool of intellectuals and students.
