Obaseki, Shaibu, Others Hail Senator Alimikhena Over Disability Bill Assent

The Governor of Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, his Deputy Rt. Hon Philip Shaibu, Edo State APC Chairman Barr. Anslem Ojezua and others has hail the Senate deputy Chief Whip representing Edo North Senator Francis Alimikhena for his forthrightness and courage in making his impact obvious in the midst of 109 Senators of the federal republic of Nigeria.

 

In their separate statement issued, the Edo State Governor described the Bill “The Discrimination Against Persons With Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018″ sponsored by Senator Francis Alimikhena as a right step on the right direction. ” Senator Francis Alimikhena has shown commitment to the yearning and aspirations of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in ensuring that the people of Nigeria are carried along irrespective of their social and physical status.

 

In a statement issued by Mr Crusoe Osagie Special Assistant on Media, Governor Obaseki said ” this is what the Edo State Government has been advocating and encouraging. We need a legislator that will champion the will and wish of the people. He said the Edo State government is committed in ensuring that only vibrant law makers are voted as legislators in the state and that’s why we are all supporting Senator Francis Alimikhena and Other APC law makers across the State.

 

The Deputy Governor of Edo State Rt. Hon.Philip Shaibu who is been represented by Senator Alimikhena in the senate said” they are proud to have a people oriented senator with the needed capacity to push his Bill to become law in the midst of rigorous legislative process. In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary Mr Musa Ebomheana, the deputy governor said Edo North people are supporting Senator Alimikhena due to his passion for the less fortunate. He has again shown his passion for the welfare of a segment of the society that has been neglected by previous government.”

 

The Edo State Chairman of the All Progressive Congress APC Barr Anslem Ojezua said senator Francis Alimikhena has not disappointed the APC administration and has shown his passion for the most neglected segment of the society. Ojezua who described the Bill as long over due commended President Muhammad Buhari for assenting to the Bill on discrimination against persons with disability. He assured Nigerians that better days await them after the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

 

Speaking on the contents of the Bill the Deputy Whip of the senate Senator Francis Alimikhena who is also the sponsor of the Bill, said “with the passage of the Bill into law, the usual abuse and discrimination against persons with disabilities in the society will become a thing of the past. By this Bill, all public organizations are to reserve at least 5% of employment opportunities for those with disability and all public utility providers are to make provision for the Physically, visually and hearing impaired. Banks, Railways, Seaports and Airports must now make life more conducive for any one with disability irrespective of the nature of the challenge.

 

In a statement made available to the press by his media aide Benjamin Atu, the Edo North Senator said ” the Act also provide for a five years duration for public building and structures or automobile to be modified and make them usable by persons with disability. The act imposes fine of 1,000,000 for corporate bodies and 100,000 for individuals or a term of six months imprisonment for violation.
