The publication of the details of Lionel Messi’s contract has been a major talking point in Spain ever since El Mundo reported the information.

It was explained that Messi’s four-year contract, signed in 2017, was worth 555 million euros to the player over the length of the deal, which expires this summer.

According to El Periodico de Catalunya, this means that Messi will have paid a total of 370m euros to the Spanish tax authorities over the four-year period.

This includes his normal income tax of 275m euros, plus various other taxes. From his fixed income of around 138m euros per year, Messi pays approximately 70m euros each year.
