Manchester United Punished By Burnley For Not Taking Chances
Manchester United suffered yet another disappointing result on Tuesday evening, as they could only draw 1-1 away at Burnley, the side at the bottom of the Premier League table.
Ralf Rangnick’s side saw the ball go in the back of the net on three occasions in the first half, although only Paul Pogba’s goal counted, while Jay Rodriguez scored early in the second half to draw things level.
United’s surprise defeat on penalties to Middlesbrough in the fourth round of the FA Cup last Friday night raised eyebrows, and this match had a lot of similarities. Once again, they created a lot of chances – particularly in the first 45 minutes – but were unable to capitalise.
Goalkeepers were impressive
There were some really impressive saves made by David de Gea and Nick Pope, but even the introduction of Cristiano Ronaldo with 20 minutes to go was unable to change the direction of the game. In fact, the 37-year-old is still yet to score in 2022.
New Burnley signing Wout Weghorst was particularly impressive for the hosts and caused all sorts of problems for Harry Maguire in particular, as he had another night to forget.
Manchester United remain in fifth place in the table, while Burnley stay bottom, four points from safety after Newcastle United’s win against Everton.
