After a goalless draw between Liverpool and Manchester United earlier in the day, Manchester City took their chance to strengthen their position in the Premier League title race with a 4-0 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday.

John Stones opened the scoring in the first half with his first Premier League goal for the club, heading in Kevin de Bruyne’s delicious cross.

Palace struggled to contain their hosts at the Etihad Stadium, with Ilkay Gundogan adding a sweet second goal before the break.

In the second half, Stones grabbed his second goal of the game before Raheem Sterling converted a spectacular freekick in the closing stages.

The win takes Pep Guardiola’s side to within two points of leaders Manchester United in the Premier League, with a game in hand too.

Roy Hodgson’s Palace, meanwhile, remain in 13th, 11 points above the relegation zone.
