Manchester City have paid Aymeric Laporte’s 65 million euro buy-out clause to the Spanish Football League and the Athletic player will travel shortly to England ahead of his presentation which is expected to be made on Tuesday.
It is unlikely that he will be ready to face West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday but he is expected to be ready for the weekend clash against Burnley.
City representatives travelled last week to Bilbao to finalise a deal after Laporte gave the go ahead to the move on Tuesday night and he passed a medical, carried out in Bilbao, before the buy-out clause was paid.
Laporte said his goodbyes to his teammates and coaching staff last Saturday.
He has gone to City 18 months after their previous attempt failed in the summer of 2016, when there was the basis of an agreement following the arrival of Guardiola at the Etihad but Laporte, whose buy-out clause then was 50m euros, decided against it finally.
Athletic will officially announce the move when the paperwork is verified by the Spanish League and they have time to look for a replacement with a month given if the player has moved from their club of origin.
