Manchester City Reclaim Top Spot With Crucial Win At Manchester United

Spread the love

Manchester City took a huge step towards defending their status as Premier League champions by beating rivals Manchester United 2-0 at Old Traffordon Wednesday night.

Liverpool supporters were temporarily cheering on United for one night only but Pep Guardiola‘s side had enough quality to swat them aside and reclaim their place atop the table with just three games to play.

United started well compared to their recent performances and it took City until the second half to open the scoring through Bernardo Silva, with the Portuguese exposing weaknesses in both Luke Shaw and David de Gea.

De Gea‘s night got even worse as the Premier League leaders doubled their lead. This time it was Leroy Sane who beat the Spaniard at his near post, leaving him exposed.

Burnley, Leicester City and Brighton are next for City, while Liverpool will take on Huddersfield, Newcastle United and Wolves, painfully aware that they could win all three but still end the season without the title despite potentially accumulating 97 points.
