Maguire’s 94th Minute Equaliser Halts United’s Comeback

With Juan Mata’s brace, Manchester United were sure they would claim the three points against Leicester City, but the game took a twist in the final minutes as Harry Maguire’s injury-time goal saw the match end in a 2-2 draw.

The Red Devils, who were recently eliminated by second-tier side Bristol City in the League Cup, have now made the fight for the English Premier League even harder, after drawing with the Foxes.

It’s a result that puts them 13 points behind Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, the biggest margin at Christmas between first and second place in English top flight.

Jamie Vardy opened the scoring after a great assist from his strike partner Riyad Mahrez, his 50th goal in the Premier League.

Vardy is known for scoring against big sides and interestingly enough, his first ever goal in the league was against United.

However, Jose Mourinho’s side responded quickly.

Mata’s two goals, his first in the league since September 30, looked to have handed United a boost before the Boxing Day programme, but that was before Maguire’s decisive intervention.

It means the Red Devils have only kept a clean sheet twice in their last 12 games.
