LGBTQ: Prohibiting Same-sex Unions By Vatican Stirs Controversy
Vatican’s pronouncement prohibiting the Catholic Church from blessing same-sex marriage has been raising dust on social media.
The Vatican on Monday had said the church does not have the power to bless same-sex union despite their “positive elements”, calling it impossible for God to “bless sin”.
The National Orientation Agency in Nigeria had also hailed the Vatican for banning all Catholic churches from conducting same-sex marriage.
Social media users were, however, divided on the Vatican’s statement that the Catholic church could not bless same sex marriages, as they were “not ordered according to creator’s plan”.

Supporting the stance of the church, a tweet, @WendyPrincea, wrote, “The Vatican says gay marriage is a sin. It is very courageous of them to come out boldly and say it. Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed for sodomy. God has not changed. You can’t bless sin.”

Another user, @Mhervv, however, asked, “But How do I tell people God is love if he is selective about who He loves?”
Replying to @Mhervv, @D_Global_remedy stated, “God loves them and desires that they change and repent. He doesn’t make them that way. God doesn’t hate sinners but He hates the sins they indulge in.”
Yes it is disappointing. But sacramental marriage was never on the table. It was hoped that blessings of people and unions might be. The German bishops have been pushing for this. Odd that we can bless motorcycles and surfboards but not certain people.

But @Mariashriver begged to differ. Questioning the stance of the Vatican, the user tweeted, “Jesus Christ was welcoming and loving everyone. Isn’t that what we are taught as Catholics? I’m struggling with this. Very disappointed.”
The Vatican's new document on barring blessings for same-sex unions may be a response to recent comments by a few German bishops who had signaled their openness to such blessings, in preparation for the upcoming synod in their country….
