Sweden midfielder Dejan Kulusevski has tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss out on his team’s Euro 2020 opener against Spain on June 14.
Kulusevski is the second player to miss the game at the Estadio de La Cartuja through coronavirus, as Sergio Busquets also tested positive this week and will not be at Luis Enrique’s disposal.
“We will not call up any replacements, but we hope Dejan can rejoin the team after the game against Spain,” said Sweden coach Janne Andersson.
Kulusevski informed Sweden’s medical staff on Tuesday that he had some cold symptoms before undergoing a test that came out positive.
“There is no reason to have an outbreak,” said Sweden doctor Anders Valentin.
“It is one case and it has been controlled from the beginning. The player has been kept isolated and has not travelled with us.”
All of Sweden’s players and staff will continue to take PCR tests to rule out an outbreak, and it remains to be seen whether there will be more cases ahead of Euro 2020 getting underway on Friday.
