In episode 5 of our new season of Kidnapping in Nigeria, unknown gunmen whisked away four residents of Angwan Zegele, a border community between Abuja and Niger State around 2am on Tuesday morning.
The hoodlums also shot one Inspector Ambi John during the operation but the cop later died while receiving treatment for gunshots.
The police have, however, launched an operation to rescue the victims and apprehend the gunmen who reportedly engaged police operatives for about one hour before escaping with their victims.
It was learnt that the FCT Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma, has dispatched a police team after the fleeing criminals.
Confirming the incident to our correspondent, the FCT police spokesperson, Mariam Yusuf, an assistant superintendent of police, explained that police personnel who responded to the distress calls from Dankusa, Angwan-Zegele-Zuba axis repelled the attack by the gunmen.
She stated, ‘’Following a distress call from Angwan Zegele, a joint team of police operatives from the command and Operation Puff Adder responded promptly and engaged the heavily armed hoodlums in a fierce gun battle.
“Unfortunately, one of the gallant officers, Inspector Ambi John, attached to Operation Puff Adder sustained fatal gunshot injuries during the operation and was rushed to the hospital where he died while receiving treatment.’’
