Former basketball player and all-time NBA leading scorer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has revealed that he suffered from prostate cancer.
The 73-year-old LA Lakers legend was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia back in 2008 and he opened up publicly for the first time about the disease.
In an article he wrote for ‘WebMD’, titled ‘Black Lives Matter’, Abdul-Jabbar acknowledged that he was able to receive better health treatment than many black people, partly because of his celebrity status and also because his two sons work in the healthcare field.
The NBA legend also referred to the fact that black people are at higher risk of heart problems and cancer, while indicating that he also underwent coronary bypass surgery.
