Multiple explosions on Sunday night rocked the University of Maiduguri in Borno State.

Some sources put the number of explosives that went off during the attack, believed to have been carried out by the Boko Haram insurgents, at over five.

Some other areas of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, were also attacked by suspected suicide bombers on Sunday night.

Dalori, where one of the Internally Displaced Persons camps is located, was said to have been one of the areas attacked.

At UNIMAID, not less than two persons were confirmed dead, though sources said the casualty figure is far higher.

One of the suicide bombers and a security guard were confirmed dead by the spokesman of the Borno State Police Command, Victor Isukwu, when the security office of the University was attacked.

Isukwu revealed on a WhatsApp group: “At Unimaid only one male suicide bomber died; three university security personnel injured among which one later died.”

The spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Sani Usman, also confirmed the attacks on UNIMAID and at Dalori.

Usman, at about midnight, said troops had been deployed to bring the situation under control.
