I Want To Play At The World Cup In Qatar – Christian Eriksen
After his dramatic health scare at Euro 2020, Christian Eriksen has been out of football ever since, with his contract with Inter later being rescinded as he cannot play in Serie A with a defibrillator, yet the Danish midfielder still hopes to play at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest in Denmark’s opening fixture in Copenhagen, forcing him to have a pacemaker fitted which ultimately ended his career in Italy.
“My goal is to go to the Qatar World Cup,” Eriksen proclaimed in an interview with DR.
“I think it’s the love of playing football, can I see myself without football when I know that the doctors say I’m fine?
“Nothing inside me tells me that I don’t have to play.”
Whilst viewers became acutely aware of the severity of the situation regarding Eriksen’s health during the match against Finland, the 29-year-old has detailed that he was actually dead for around five minutes.
“In spite of everything, I am fortunate to be here today,” he added.
“It’s not that I wanted people to send me flowers because I was dead for five minutes, but it has been very special, people have been so nice and the good wishes have helped me.”
Italian rules prevent professional athletes from competing with a pacemaker fitted, but Eriksen doesn’t feel that his health is going to be put at any risk by returning to football.
“By no means, not even remotely,” he continued.
“At first, I was careful thinking about how much my heart could hold after what happened.
“But now I feel like they have done as many tests as possible, so no, I have no fear that it might happen again.”
