Griezmann Saves France As Hungary Hold Les Blues To Stalemate
Hungary took the lead against the flow of play in the first half through Attila Fiola and although Antoine Griezmann equalised for France after the interval, Les Blues didn’t manage to complete a comeback and dropped two points at the Puskas Arena.
Hungary started off better and attempted to surprise France by pressing high the pitch, but Les Blues grew into the game and pinned their opponents back towards their own box.
Karim Benzema unleashed a fine effort from outside the box but failed to beat Peter Gulacsi before Lucas Digne’s precise cross was met by Kylian Mbappe, whose header went just wide.
Mbappe and Benzema then combined well in the box, but the Real Madrid striker didn’t manage to hit the target with a poor finish with the outside of his boot.
Two minutes into first-half stoppage time, Hungary hit on the counter-attack and opened the scoring through Fiola, who converted their first and only clear chance in the match into a goal.
Following the break, France chased an equaliser from the off but struggled to break down Hungary’s low block. Didier Deschamps sent on Ousmane Dembele and the Barcelona forward hit the post with one of his first touches in the game.
Les Blues finally managed to level the game through Antoine Griezmann, who benefited from an Mbappe cut-back to beat Gulacsi with a cool finish from inside the box.
But France didn’t manage to grab a second goal as the game ended in a draw. Deschamps’ side have mustered four points after two games in Group F, with Hungary snatching their first point at Euro 2020.
