Firmino, Mane On Score Sheet In Liverpool Impressive Win Against Tottenham

Liverpool took advantage of a series of defensive mistakes from Tottenham Hotspur to emerge with a 3-1 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday night.

Roberto Firmino gave Jurgen Klopp’s side the lead just before the half-time break, ending their 486-minute wait for a goal in the Premier League, and then Trent Alexander-Arnold doubled their lead two minutes into the second period. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg equalised a couple of minutes later, but Sadio Mane re-established Liverpool’s two-goal lead with the final goal of the game in the 65th minute.

Liverpool had suffered back-to-back defeats against Burnley and Manchester United in the Premier League and FA Cup respectively, so Klopp will be pleased that his side got back to winning ways.

For Tottenham, though, it was a bad night at the office all round. They made sloppy mistakes in defence for all three goals, while Harry Kane had to be withdrawn at half time after picking up an ankle injury. Eric Dier was down for a while just before the break, too.

This result sees Liverpool move up to fourth in the table on 37 points after 20 games, four points behind leaders Manchester City, who have played one match less. Spurs, meanwhile, remain sixth on 33 points after 19 games played.

Next up for Liverpool is another match in London, as they face in-form West Ham United on Sunday lunchtime. Jose Mourinho’s side play away at Brighton later on Sunday.
