Ferran Torres Signs For Barcelona
Ferran Torres is officially a Barcelona player after completing a move from Manchester City in a deal worth up to 65 million euros. The Spain international has signed a five-and-a-half-year deal at the Camp Nou.
Joan Laporta promised Xavi Hernandez that he would do his all to give him what he wants, and the Blaugrana president is keeping his word. The new head coach wanted to strengthen the attack with a player who can score, and the club have landed their man.
Despite the club’s economic difficulties, this deal was a priority and Barcelona will be delighted to have wrapped it up before the window officially opens so that Ferran can begin training with his new teammates as soon as possible. Made possible, in part, thanks to the new bank loans secured and the exit of Sergio Aguero, the next stage of the plan is to make space in the squad for the new arrival.
Ferran Torres, 21, was under contract at Manchester City until 2025 and has scored 16 goals in 43 games for the club since arriving from Valencia in the summer of 2020. After making the move to England, his Spain debut came shortly afterwards and he now has 12 goals in 22 games for La Roja.
Versatility
Barcelona’s frontline hasn’t had much luck with injuries this season, hence why Xavi was keen to ask for reinforcements, just like Ronald Koeman before him. The coach from Terrassa himself asked explicitly for Ferran Torres and Joan Laporta delivered.
Ferran, who has become an important player for Luis Enrique’s Spain and still has his best years ahead of him, offers Xavi plenty of options. The Valencia youth product can play anywhere across the front three and is one of the most promising young players in Europe.
Transfer window
After Dani Alves, Ferran Torres is the second signing of the Xavi era and of the upcoming January transfer window, when both will be able to be registered officially to play for the club. Depending on who heads for the exit door, they could be joined by further new arrivals in the coming days.
