It seems that supporters of Cristiano Ronaldo’s club team aren’t the only ones who have had their differences with the once in a generation footballer, as Portugal coach Fernando Santos has also hit out at how the country’s fans treat their biggest star.
The criticism follows the Real Madrid No.7 no matter where he plays and he has continued to silent those that doubt his ability, whether they be in Madrid or elsewhere.
“I don’t understand why some Portuguese people value Cristiano Ronaldo so little,” the Euro 2016 winning coach said. “In the group stages there were complaints he wasn’t scoring enough.
“Then when he started scoring, they complained he did so any other way.”
When asked about the player’s late career transformation from CR7 to CR9, Santos insisted this transition was somewhat overblown.
“Cristiano Ronaldo has always scored goals,” he concluded. “Ever since I’ve known him when he was 18 he’s been doing so.”
