Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has admitted that he is one of the many players who have dreamt of winning the Ballon d’Or at some point in their career.

It has been almost impossible for any other player in Europe to be awarded the aforementioned prize in recent years, as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo dominated the award.

“[Winning the Ballon d’Or] does not make me lose any sleep, although it is a dream for every player,” Benzema said at the press conference ahead of Los Blancos’ Champions League opener with Inter.

“What I want is to help the team. Every player wants to win it and so do I.”

Benzema went on to stress that Real Madrid aim to come out victorious of this Champions League campaign as they have attempted to do in all previous seasons.

“For me, the Champions League is the top competition and it is the one with the most pressure,” added Benzema.

“For me there are no favourites. On the pitch one thinks that one team will win and then another wins. We have a great team and we are going to fight for winning it.”

Vinicius Junior has hit the ground running this season. The Brazilian forward has netted four times in four games in LaLiga Santander and the France international claimed that his teammate is an elite talent.

“[Vinicius] is a young player who now has experience at this club,” noted Benzema.

“He is scoring goals, but he helps us with other things, such as his speed. I have always been with him and I can help him more to succeed.

“I believe in him, he is a top player.”
