House Prepares To Rebuke Trump By Repealing Emergency Declaration

As the House on Tuesday prepared to approve a measure to repeal President Donald Trump’s emergency border declaration, the resolution appeared to be on the verge of capturing enough support in the Senate to pass when it votes on the measure next month.

The House planned to vote around 5:15 p.m. ET Tuesday on a resolution offered by Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, to terminate Trump’s emergency declaration. It was expected to pass easily, with the Senate then required to hold a floor vote on the measure within 18 days.

“We’ve got 230 co-sponsors,” Castro said in an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” — more than the number of votes needed for the resolution to pass.

“There are three Republican senators now who it looks like they’ve said that they will support it. We need one more.”
