Former Super Eagles’ goalkeeper, Ike Shorunmu believes Nigeria’s victory over Poland in their international friendly on Friday has put the team in confident mood going into tomorrow’s game against Serbia in London. But he cautions the team against being overconfident because of the win in Krakow, adding that victory in the first warm up tie should be seen as a right step in the quest to gain confidence before the World Cup.
The former Super Eagles goalkeepers’ trainer opined that victory against Serbia would lift the players’ spirit in subsequent ties, arguing, however, that if the Super Eagles allowed the result against Poland to get into their heads, the team might get embarrassing thrashing from Serbia.
“The Super Eagles had a good game against Poland, but they have to forge ahead by reenacting the same performance against Serbia to put them in the right frame of mind before the World Cup.
“I think Uzoho was jittery at the beginning of the Poland game, but later he gained his confidence. That shows that the goalkeepers in camp need more games to gain confidence,” he said.
