Chelsea Overcome Scare To See Off Slavia Prague

An excellent first-half performance was almost undone at Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea rode the pressure to see off Sparta Prague with a 5-3 aggregate victory, winning 4-3 on the night.

Chelsea started with some brilliant football in Maurizio Sarri‘s style and it was a textbook example of ‘Sarrismo‘ that saw them open the scoring. After a number of quick passes and tidy interplay, Pedro got through and chipped the goalkeeper.

The sublime was followed by ridiculous soon after. Pedro had a simple tap-in that he somehow hit off the post, with the ball then bouncing off Simon Deli‘s face and into his own goal.

Olivier Giroud made it three but again the Spaniard was central. Set through on the right, the winger squared for the Frenchman to have the easiest of finishes and the Spain international scuffed in his second and Chelsea‘s fourth after Tomas Soucek had pulled one back for the visitors.

The Premier League side did have a second-half scare though, as Petr Sevcik stunned Kepa Arrizabalaga twice within three minutes to make things considerably more interesting.

But Sarri introduced Jorginho in an attempt to regain control, and the Blues were able to see the game out.

Chelsea will now face Eintracht Frankfurt in the semi-finals.
