Chelsea Hand Liverpool Another Home Defeat

Anfield is no longer the fortress it once was as Chelsea inflicted on Liverpool their fifth home defeat of the season with a 1-0 win on Merseyside.

Jurgen Klopp’s men went an unprecedented 68 consecutive Premier League games without losing at home, and have now endured five straight losses and seven games without a win at Anfield. An occurrence not seen for 129 years.

Thomas Tuchel, the man who succeeded Klopp at Mainz and Dortmund, managed to get his third victory over his compatriot, and first away win too.

Mason Mount was the hero for Chelsea as his excellent strike just before half time was enough for three points. The English youngster delightfully controlled a long ball over the defence, before burning Fabinho for pace and firing past Alisson.

Before that Timo Werner had a goal ruled out for offside by VAR.

Hakim Ziyech had a thunderous effort blocked by Andy Robertson, and Alisson had to be on hand to deny Werner from making it two.

The result means Chelsea are now move into the Premier League top four, while Liverpool slip to seventh and are four points off Champions League qualification.
