French Open organisers have decided to cancel play at Roland Garros on Wednesday due to adverse weather conditions.

World number one Novak Djokovic and 2018 champion Simona Halep were among those due on court to play in their respective quarter-final matches at Roland Garros.

Forecasts showed that heavy rain was expected throughout the day in Paris, and the downpour began before play could get underway at the scheduled 2pm start time (1pm BST).

After several delays, tournament organisers announced at 3:30pm that they had opted to abandon play altogether.

Spectators were offered a full refund and free admission to watch the action unfold on Thursday, with the weather likely to improve.
