Zinedine Zidane will have neither Dani Carvajal nor Luka Jovic at his disposal for the Supecopa de Espana semi-final against Athletic Club on Thursday.
Neither of the two Real Madrid players has recovered from their respective injuries in time to make it for the game that will take place at the Estadio La Rosaleda in Malaga at 21:00 CET.
Carvajal suffered a muscle discomfort after the game against Celta Vigo, with Jovic picking up an injury in training.
Neither the Spanish right-back nor the Serbian striker travelled to Pamplona for Los Blancos’ match with Osasuna, with the former also suspended due to yellow card accumulation.
Carvajal couldn’t train normally at Real Madrid’s training ground in Valdebebas due to his discomfort, while Jovic initially made the squad for the Osasuna game but had to be dropped through muscle overload.
Therefore, both players stayed in Madrid to follow their respective recovery processes and will travel to Andalusia only in the event Real Madrid progress to the final and providing that they have fully recovered from their injuries.
With Carvajal sidelined, Zidane played Lucas Vazquez at right-back against Osasuna, but Nacho Fernandez could be an alternative if the Frenchman decides to play the former in his natural position instead of Marco Asensio.
Meanwhile, Jovic has fallen behind Mariano Diaz in Zidane’s pecking order and hasn’t played since November 8, when he featured for eight minutes in the 4-1 defeat at the hands of Valencia at Mestalla.
