The portal gov.uk and the newspaper sites all showed error messages. The BBC was also temporarily inaccessible but later returned.

According to Sky News, a global online content delivery network (CDN) had reported an outage across its network, affecting sites which use its platform.

The US-based company then confirmed it had found the issue and that its global network was coming back online.

Also, on the official Twitter handle of the UK Government, a statement read, “We are aware of the issues with GOV.UK which means that users may not be able to access the site. This is a wider issue affecting a number of other non-government sites. We are investigating this as a matter of urgency.

“Following the outage earlier, most information and services on GOV.UK are now back online. We are working to resolve any remaining issues and continue to monitor the situation.”

A later tweet read, “GOV.UK is now working as normal. All information and services on GOV.UK are now back online.”

Some of the other international media platforms which were down at the same time are also gradually coming back up.
