Nigeria Reports Highest COVID-19 Death Rates, Surge In Virus Infections
Nigeria’s single-day count of fatalities recorded another increase on Monday, with 28 persons confirmed to have died of coronavirus complications across the country, Worldtopnewsng reports.
According to data published by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), this is the country’s highest daily count since the virus breakout.
Worldtopnewsng had reported that the last time the single-day tally of deaths was more than 24 was on January 29, when 27 fatalities were recorded.
With the Monday figure, a total of 2,099 coronavirus-related deaths have now been confirmed across the country.
The agency also confirmed 203 new coronavirus infections in 5 states and the federal capital territory (FCT).
The new cases were confirmed in the agency’s update for May 31, 2021.
The Monday figure shows a huge increase over the past few weeks.

Benue had the highest number of positive samples on Monday with 178 new infections, and the total figure of confirmed cases in the state has now surpassed 1,000.
Lagos, the epicentre of the pandemic, had the second highest number of new cases on Monday with 10 positive samples, while Ondo was third on the list with 6 infections.
Other states with new cases are: FCT (4), Kaduna (4) and Plateau (1).
On the daily record of recoveries, the figure rise with 2,223 persons discharged on Monday.
The total number of discharged patients now stands at 158,781.

A total of 166,518 cases have now been confirmed in 36 states and the FCT since February 27, 2020.
