2 Dead, One Injured As Helicopter Crashes Into Building In Lagos

…There will be compensation for those affected, Says LASG

A Helicopter has crashed into a building at Salvation Road, Opebi, Lagos a few minutes past noon worldtopnewsng.com report.

According to information at wordtopnewsng.com disposal, a Bell Helicopter 206B3 with the registration number 5N-BQW belonging to Quorum Aviation Ltd crashed at around 12:17 pm.

Two people have confirmed dead and one reported injured after the helicopter crash-landed into the building.

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), DG/CEO, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said at the scene of the crashed helicopter his agency and other emergency response services are on ground and carrying out the necessary services, “On the arrival to the scene with the combined Response Team, it was observed that there was an helicopter crash, ” Oke-Osanyintolu said.

“However, an adult male was rescued and taken to LASUTH for further treatment. While two adult male were confirmed dead.”
Speaking on the on-going emergency services, the Lagos State Commissioner for Special Duties, Engr. Bamgbose-Martins, insisted there’s need for thorough investigation into the crash “We have to wait until after investigation, we are already on it. Of course, the wreck has to be removed from the buildings affected before we can do further investigation”, Bamgbose-Martins stated.
He added: “I don’t think the issue of compensation should be the priority now, let us even find out what happened. Who is to blame, is it the helicopter, the pilot or whatever, let’s know who is to blame before we start talking about compensation.”
“But of course if there’s need for compensation especially those who buildings have been affected that must happen.”
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) also confirmed the crash of three people on board.

AIB Spokesperson, Tunji Oketunbi, said that personnel of the bureau have been drafted to the scene of the incident to ascertain its cause.

 

He, however, declared that the bureau has immediately commenced investigations to unravel the cause of the mishap.
The Quorum Aviation helicopter was said to have originated from Port Harcourt for a yet to be uncovered mission and the identities of the three onboard.

Also speaking on the development, Commander of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS), DCP Tunji Disu, said the police are on ground to ensure the security of properties at its environs “I can confirm the crash, two dead on the spot while one critically injured. We are fully on ground to guarantee the security of properties around”, the police boss said.

According to him, “The Commissioner of Police is here with us, we are firmly on top of the situation, other agencies are here with us too”, Disu concluded.

Lagos State Fire Service, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FRSC, LASTMA and LASAMBUS were all on ground.
