Bottom Club Mainz Earn A Point Against Dortmund

Spread the love

Borussia Dortmund lost ground in the Bundesliga title race with a 1-1 draw against bottom club Mainz at the Signal Iduna Park on Saturday.

Erling Haaland did not have a particularly enjoyable afternoon, which started with his early opener being ruled out by VAR.

A shock was on the cards when Mainz, who have won just one Bundesliga game all season, took the lead through Levin Mete Oztunali just before the hour mark.

However, Mainz’s failure to clear the ball in their own penalty area allowed Thomas Meunier to fire in an equaliser in the 73rd minute.

Moments later, Meunier was involved again, winning a penalty off Alexander Hack which Marco Reus would roll wide of the post.

The draw leaves Dortmund four points off leaders Bayern Munich having played a game more, while Mainz move off the bottom of the table with the point.
