Bayer Leverkusen Beat Dortmund, Go Second In Bundesliga

Spread the love

Bayer Leverkusen, not Borussia Dortmund, took the chance to maintain pressure on Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich on Tuesday evening as they beat Die Borussen 2-1.

Both came into the game on 29 points, sitting joint third behind Bayern and Leipzig, but goals as either end of the 90 minutes secured the points for the hosts to take them into second place.

Moussa Diaby opened the scoring for Leverkusen inside a quarter of an hour, having been picked out by a sublime Leon Bailey ball.

It took Dortmund until midway through the second half to draw level, eventually doing so on 67 minutes. Julian Brandt was the man responsible, curling in a fine long-range strike with his right foot.

But in the 80th minute, teenager Florian Wirtz restored the hosts’ lead, grabbing his sixth goal of the season with a confident finish.
