There’s no doubt in Pedja Mijatovic‘s mind that Luka Modric should be the2018 Ballon d’Or winner.
With Real Madrid, he managed to lift the Champions League and his national team reached the final of the World Cup in Russia, with Modric being one of the most important players in the team.
At 33, he is at his best and is the clear favourite
Modric received the Sportsman of the Year award from GQ magazine for his excellent campaign.
Mijatovic defended the candidacy of the Croatian for an award that will be made on December 3.
The former Real player has no doubt.
“He has had a fantastic year on a personal and collective level,” Mijatovic said.
“Won the Champions League and took Croatia to the World Cup final.
“He is the man of the year and I think who is going to be the winner of the Ballon d’Or.
“I don’t see another player with the merits of Luka.
“There are others who claim the prize, but the Ballon d’Or has only one name: Luka Modric.”
Mijatovic also defended Marco Asensio after recent criticism.
“I’m in love with him as a player,” he added.
“He has a lot to achieve and you have to have peace of mind with him.”
