Mikel Arteta and his family have received threats on social media and the Arsenal coach discussed the unease this has caused on Friday.
The Spaniard explained that Arsenal have tried to help in the matter.
“When you are winning then it’s beautiful [and they say] you are incredible and you are the best,” Arteta said in a press conference when the subject came up.
“When you lose then it’s the opposite, it’s not pleasant.
“When it’s personal against me I can take it, but when it is my family involved it is a different story.
“The club are very supportive. We do what we have to when those things happen.
“Medium and long term, can we do something about it? We need to protect people in the game.
“It’s not going to stop tomorrow, we know that.”
Arteta went on to comment on the abuse directed the way of referee Mike Dean.
“I am not the only one suffering this type of thing,” the Arsenal coach said.
“The incident that occurred a few days ago with Mike Dean is completely unacceptable.
“We should stand by him and support referees. They have a tremendously difficult role at the moment.
“They are preparing the best they can. We all make mistakes.”
