At this moment the future of Santi Cazorla remains unclear, injuries have blighted his last two seasons with Arsenal however Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the club wish to keep him if he can prove his fitness.
The former Malaga playmaker has yet to play in the 2017/18 season after an incredibly unfortunate Achilles injury.
“We want to keep him, we have to evaluate it, if Santi is fit and available then yes we will renew,” he explained in his pre-match press conference.
“It’s a complicated situation because we want him, he is a great player.
“However, he needs to be healthy to play with the intensity that the Premier League requires.”
A further setback has delayed Cazorla’s return yet further, dashing hopes he will return to action in 2018. Wenger himself made clear that he is keeping tabs on the Spaniard’s situation.
“I sent him a message two weeks ago and I wished him well,” he confirmed. “I’m hoping to see him soon, but he hasn’t returned yet because he has just undergone surgery.
“Doctors know much better if he will play again in 2018, returning before the end of the season will be difficult for him.”
