Ambode’s Aide, Deji Tinubu Slumps, Dies While Playing Football
Reports have it that the special adviser to the Lagos Government on commerce and industry Mr Deji Tinubu is dead.
According to the source, he died after he slumped at the ongoing retreat happening in Epe, Lagos state today 25th january 2018.
It was gathered further that it was a cardiac arrest that was uncontrolable.
Mr. Tinubu was at the helm of affairs of sports in the state since the inception of the Ambode administration. He doubled as chairman of the sports commission as well as special adviser to Governor Ambode on sports, before he was named the Special Advicer on Commerce and Industry in November 2017.
Masqueraded as a top class sports commentator and analyst. His deep, insightful and astute comments, coupled with his gift of the gab made for an enjoyable and educative viewing and listening experience.
Breaking into radio and tv production, broadcast and analysis in the late eighties, Deji and his company Sportvision Nig, redefined sports programming in Nigeria with exciting, content filled and up to date ground breaking programmes like Football Italia and the IAAF Golden league.
Being in tune with current trends and happenstances in the world of sport, previews and highlight shows of the major football events from around the world quickly followed on radio and television. All with the Sportvision signature of a relaxed presentation style, coupled with deep and insightful analysis.
Sportvision Nigeria produced and packaged two of Nigeria’s best known radio and television sports programmes, 90 mins, Nigeria’s most comprehensive football show and Sports Express which has aired every weekday morning for the last 18 years or so. Both programmes, at one time or the other, enjoyed patronage from Nigeria’s blue chip companies.
He was also the Chief Executive Officer of the company – overseeing the management, direction and business development activities of SportVision, to provide clients with the best possible sports marketing, programming and sponsorship solutions. He was responsible for all the functional disciplines of SportVision, delivering the company’s strategic policies and positioning, overseeing its growth and industry recognition and maintaining SportVision’s reputation as an authority in its field.
He was one of the main analysts on HiTV’s football roster, where he also co-presented and co-produced SportVision’s other programmes, previews and reviews of the major football tournaments like the World Cup, Euros and African Nations Cup.
Also a seasoned sports marketer, sponsorship consultant and administrator, Deji held the post of Executive Chairman of the Lagos state Sports Council between 2000 and 2004, the first time the post has been an Executive one.
In 2010 he contested for and was elected into the Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, where he headed the Marketing and Sponsorship committee and was a member of the Technical Committee.
October 2015 Deji Tinubu was appointed member of the Lagos State Executive Council as the Special Adviser on Sports to His Excellency Governor Akinwunmi Ambode as well as the Chairman Lagos State Sports Commission.
