Ajax Steal A Draw With Injury Time Penalty At PSV

There was no shortage of drama in the derby between PSV and Ajax on Sunday in the Eredivisie, as the visitors earned a 1-1 draw with a late penalty from Dusan Tadic.

PSV started the brighter of the two, and their first half dominance eventually brought about the opening goal through Eran Zahavi.

The Israeli, who’d scored twice against Ajax in the 2-2 draw between the two sides earlier in the season, netted with a peach of a freekick.

PSV thought they had doubled their lead on 78 minutes when academy graduate Yorbe Vertessen ended a fine counter attack with a cool finish, but VAR overruled the referee to disallow the goal for handball.

Yet the real controversy of the evening came in the dying stages. Denzel Dumfries was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area, despite the strike being fired at him from close range.

In the build up to the penalty, a frustrated Dumfries exchanged some unpleasant words with penalty taker Tadic.

Yet the Serbian remained unfazed as he calmly slotted the ball down the middle of the goal to earn a precious point for Ajax.
