Buccaneers Rough Up Chiefs As Tom Brady Wins Seventh Super Bowl

Tom Brady threw three touchdown passes to lead the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a 31-9 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV on Sunday night at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.

Brady tossed a pair of scores to former New England Patriots teammate Rob Gronkowski before finding Antonio Brown for another score, all coming in the first half, to pave the way for Brady’s seventh Super Bowl win.

While Brady will receive the bulk of the headlines, it was the Tampa Bay defense that made the biggest difference. The Bucs’ defensive line constantly pressured star Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and held the league’s top-ranked offense to just three field goals.

Not helping matters was a Chiefs defense that committed eight penalties for 95 yards in the first half, which allowed the Bucs to extend drives that ultimately led to scores.

Kansas City were actually first on the board with a drive that yielded a 3-0 lead thanks to a Harrison Butker field goal from 49 yards.

The Bucs offense would then kick into gear with a mix of runs from Leonard Fournette and passes to Antonio Brown. Brady would then give Tampa their first lead of the game by finding Gronkowski with a seven-yard touchdown pass to make it 7-3.

The Bucs looked set to score a second straight touchdown after Brady found Mike Evans with a 31-yard pass, but the Chiefs defense made a massive goal-line stand to keep it 7-3.

However, a poor punt and a pair of Chiefs defensive penalties on an interception and then a field goal attempt paved the way for Brady’s second touchdown pass of the night to Gronkowski, this time from 17 yards for a 14-3 Bucs lead.

Mahomes was finally able to kick the Chiefs offense back into gear and connected with TE Travis Kelce four times for 40 yards, but the drive stalled and it led to another Butker field goal and a 14-6 Bucs lead.

The struggles on defense continued for Kansas City and a pair of pass interference calls gave Tampa Bay a 1st and goal on the Chiefs’ 1-yard line. With just 10 seconds left on the first half clock, Brady was cool as ice in finding Brown in the slot for the touchdown and a 21-6 halftime lead.

RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire gave the Chiefs a spark to start the second half with 35 yards rushing on the ground, but Mahomes was unable to lead them any further and Butker was called on again to provide the points, nailing a 52-yarder to cut the gap to 21-9.

It did not rattle the Tampa Bay offense in the least and after Brady connected with Gronkowski for a 25-yard pass, Fournette found daylight from 27 yards out for a touchdown and a 28-9 Bucs lead.

A Mahomes interception set up a short field for the Bucs, however a bad snap to Brady on a third down meant that the Bucs had to settle for a field goal, with Ryan Succop sneaking in a kick from 52 yards out to stretch the lead to 31-9.

The Chiefs tried desperately to find a way back into it, but Mahomes was powerless against a Bucs defensive line that had an absolute field day, leaving the Chiefs star quarterback running for his life.

The fourth quarter was a mere formality for Brady and the Bucs offense, as they used the ground game to help polish off the final minutes, cementing Brady’s greatest of all-time legacy and earning Tampa Bay their second Super Bowl crown.
