Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu (BOS), has been commended for taking the bull by the horn through signing into Law, the anti-cultism Bill at a time, when some diabolical associations and societies are breaching the peace of the state that has hitherto been a thing of pride to the state.

A pan-Lagos pro-democracy organisation, Epe Youth Forum (EPF), gave the commendation Wednesday in Epe, in a statement signed by its Convener, Comrade Adewale Oladipupo, in which it is said that, the governor has really proved to be commitment to the security and wellbeing of his people, saying, only an administrator that is worth his salt would rise up promptly to nip dangerous acts in the bud before much havocs are done.

The Bill that has eventually become Law, has stipulated punishment for parents of cultists found guilty of cultism in the amendment of the Anti-Cultism Law submitted by the state government to the House, with a view to further prohibiting unlawful societies and cultism, including other connected purposes in the state.

According to the group, the activities of various diabolical associations in the state in the recent times have been a cause for concern for all the peace-loving members of the society, wondering why anybody in his right senses should want to puncture the serenity of a peaceful society with acts of hooliganism, cultism, brigandage and banditry!

The organization also gave kudos to the 40-member Legislative House in the state for its thoughtfulness in giving the Bill the priority it deserves that led to its prompt passage, saying, the development was a clear testimony of Executive/Legislative harmony in the state.

Recall that, Lagos State governor, Mr.Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Monday signed into law the Unlawful Societies and Cultism (Prohibition) Bill 2020 after the Lagos State House of Assembly had, in 2020, passed the anti-cultism bill during the plenary session through a voice vote conducted by the Speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.

The bill which has now become law stipulated punishment for parents of cultists found guilty of cultism in the amendment of the Anti-Cultism Law submitted by the state government to the state’s Legislative House with a view to prohibiting further, unlawful societies and cultism, including other connected purposes in the state.

Against this backdrop, the organization has therefore advised parents and guardians to caution their children against any act that could tarnish the family name by ensuring their wards comply with societal norms and values to avoid imprisonment, reminding that, “charity is supposed to start from home.”

The statement therefore enjoined the residents to cooperate with the governor and support him to ensure compliance for the good of all, reminding that, governance is not the sole responsibility of the government but a collective responsibility of all.
