Gareth Bale produced an excellent performance to lead Tottenham Hotspur to a comfortable 4-1 first leg win against Wolfsberger at the Puskas Arena in the Europa League round of 16.

Son Heung-min opened the scoring for Spurs, with Bale and Lucas Moura netting before the break and Carlos Vinicius getting a later goal, after Michael Liendl had pulled one back from the spot.

The Real Madrid loanee set up Son, who headed home from close range, before Bale scored one of his own with a clinical finish from inside the box.

Wolfsberger tried to react after conceding the second, but Dario Vizinger’s header went just wide and Moura finished the game off just after the half an hour mark.

Alexander Kofler produced a stunning save to deny Bale after the break and Wolfsberger pulled one back through Liendl who converted from the spot.

Two second half substitutes combined for the Spurs’ fourth, as Erik Lamela assisted Vinicius who netted a late goal for the visitors.

The return leg between the two sides will be played on February 24 at 18:00 CET.
