NBA Fine Kevin Durant $50,000 For Homophobic Language On Social Media

The NBA have fined Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant after he made offensive comments in an online altercation with actor Michael Rapaport.

Some of the exchanges contained homophobic slurs for which Durant was punished.

“Durant has been fined 50,000 dollars offensive and derogatory language on social media,” the NBA said in a statement.

“Durant has recognised that his actions were inappropriate”.

The 32-year-old apologised to fans on Thursday after Rapaport posted private messages he received from Durant.

“I’m sorry that people saw the language that I used,” said Durant.

“That’s not really what I want people to see and hear from me, but hopefully I can move past it and get back out on the floor”.

Durant, who won two NBA rings with the Golden State Warriors, attacked Rapaport with a series of private messages on Instagram after the actor had criticised him in a TV interview in December.

“I receive threats and disgusting messages DAILY, but never in my wildest dreams did I think @KDTrey5 would be among them,” Rapaport wrote on Twitter along with several screenshots of messages he had received.

“The snake himself is now threatening me, bringing up my wife and wants to fight.

“This is supposed to me America’s sweetheart, right?”
