Russia 2018: FIFA Grants StarTimes Media Rights For Sub-Saharan Africa

Pay TV operator StarTimes has acquired the media rights for the 2018 World Cup as FIFA officially granted media rights to all their 2017/2018 events in Sub-Saharan Africa on Thursday.

StarTimes was awarded Pay TV transmission rights for 42 territories of Sub-Saharan Africa except South Africa with regards to the 2018 World Cup.

Besides the 2018 World Cup in Russia, StarTimes also got the Pay TV transmission rights in Sub-Saharan Africa for all the other 2017/2018 FIFA events, except the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017.

“We are so glad to offer the best football matches to our subscribers in Africa having secured the broadcasting rights for the 2018 FIFA World Cup and all the other 2017/2018 FIFA events,” Michael Dearham, StarTimes Vice President and Managing Director of Media Division, said.

The 42 countries are Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Congo DR, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
