Red Alert For Rooney As Derby Are Deducted 12 Points

Wayne Rooney didn’t pick a simple job for his first in management when he chose Derby County, the two-time league winners (1972 and 1975) and one-time FA Cup winner (1946).

Last season, the club avoided relegation to League One, the third tier, on the final day and this season that task will be even more difficult.

The club’s owner, Mel Morris, has put the club into administration after losing more than 200 million euros since 2015, and the English Football League have sanctioned them accordingly with a 12-point deduction.

“Our immediate objectives are to ensure the club completes all its fixtures in the Championship this season and finding interested parties to safeguard the club and its employees,” administrators said.

In the summer, Rooney was unable to add to his squad as he may have liked, limited only to free agents like Phil Jagielka, Ravel Morrison, Sam Baldock, Richard Stearman or Ryan Allsop.

Derby had started the season strongly with 10 points from eight games putting them 12th in the table, but they are now bottom on -2 points and nine points from safety.

It also remains to be seen what will happen with the contracts of current players and coaches.
