Aslan Karatsev has got his hands on his first ATP tour title after beating Lloyd Harris 6-3, 6-2 in the final at the Dubai Tennis Championships.

At the start of the year, the 27-year-old had only played 13 ATP matches in his entire career. But, after a stellar performance at the Australian Open, he has shot to stardom.

The Russian, who reached the last four in Melbourne, took just 75 minutes to beat his South African opponent in the final in the UAE.

“I was super nervous,” Karatsev said after becoming the third wildcard pick to win the tournament after Wayne Ferreira and Thomas Muster.

“His case his strange in tennis,” Harris said of his opponent. “A late bloomer of hard work. But he’s here to stay for a long time. He showed his quality in the Challenges last year.”
