Former Polaris Bank chief executive officer and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Lagos East Senatorial bye-election, Mr Tokunbo Abiru, has begun engagement with chieftains in the State.

Abiru, a former banker won his election and emerged as the party candidate, though, he’s the only one who purchased the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms for the bye-election scheduled for October 31, 2020.

The Lagos East Senatorial District seat became vacant after the death of former lawmaker, late Senator Adebayo Sikiru Osinowo, who died of COVID-19 complications June 2020.

Abiru on twitter after meeting with the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa and other lawmakers at the Assembly Complex, Ikeja Lagos, confirmed the development.

Abiru tweeted: “I met with the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudasiru Obasa @mudashiru_obasa, and other lawmakers at the House Assembly Complex yesterday. This was in continuation of my engagement with stakeholders ahead of the Lagos East Senatorial District bye-election.”

The Speaker and other lawmakers during the meeting assured Abiru of their support in the forthcoming Lagos East Senatorial election. “I want to assure you that have our support already. It is the responsibility of all of us in this House and not those of Lagos East alone to support you.”

“It is not your election. It is our election because whatever the outcome, it has implications on all of us, our party in Lagos, and what will happen in the next election of 2023”.

“We have a Commander-in-Chief, whenever he declares this is the way, we follow him, and whatever he says, we ensure it is followed to its logical conclusion. This is not going to be an exemption,” Obasa said.

Obasa who was formerly the Chairman of the House Committee on Economic Planning & Budget reiterated that Abiru is not new to him as they both worked together when he was Commissioner for Finance in the state.

Recently, Abiru visited the party Secretariat at Acme, Ogba, Lagos to present himself for the senatorial election of Lagos East, where he was by the Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), Lagos State, Alhaji Babatunde Balogun; his Deputy, Chief Sunny Ajose and Secretary, Lagos APC, Mr. Lanre Ogunyemi, among others.

The former banker also paid a courtesy visit to former Senator and Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro; former Minister of State Agriculture & Water Resources, Ademola Seriki, families of late Senator Osinowo and former member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Chief Lanre Razak.
